New Post: Transfer data from Epi Info 3.5.4 to Epi Info 7

Good afternoon,
I could help with this question: I wanted to see the possibility to transfer my data I have in Epi Info 3.5.4 to the new version that would Epi7, is this possible???
If not possible,
I wanted to see that way I can edit the data that was in the version 3.5.4 from the new version of Epi.

I'm using the latest epi info (at the moment of writing 7.1.0.6). I wanted to use a MySQL database, and according to this (old) post, there should be an option on the "Create Project" window on the Data part:

Data repository:

Microsoft SQL Server
Microsoft Access
MySQL

Though, the latest doesn't exist. In the options on the main window I chose "MySQL Database" as my Default Database Format for new projects and it also appears as a plug-in, so I guess everything is installed.

The Epi Info change the order of pages, for example: I think the database with 10 page and are ordered of 1 to 10, but when entry information, appears page 1 after page 2 and page 5 before page 3, etc. Not appear the same way as when they were created and difficult entering information.

The Epi Info version is: 7.0.9.34

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Can you explain it in more detail? Also, can you specify the version of Epi Info 7 that is being used?

Hi Biohazard, as the Epi Info now supports SQL server, can you plz tell us detail info regarding how to allow mutli-user data entry in EI7. And for avoiding duplicates you had suggested a method for generating Unique ID in Epi Info 3.5 as here http://forums.myepi.info/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9
But I cant do this on Epi Info 7. Lastly would EpiInfo support data from a form of 28 fields for >100,000 records. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the great product ;).

Greetings,

You'll need to open the solution file in MS Visual Studio 2010. I'm not familiar with MS Visual Web Developer so I don't know if that will allow you to work with the code. I think the project you're looking for within the solution is Epi.Windows.Menu.

Hello, I'm a mid-level dot NET programmer.

The question I have is -

1) How do I open EpiInfo source code from within MS Visual Web Developer.

2) How do I go about creating a new "button" to the EpiInfo UI [This will call a module [function]]. This could be for xample, that a user might use to do an optional data massaging step.

Hi, can you please help me connect to mysql 5.5 from epi info 7.0.8.3. I installed epi info 7.0.8.3 and mysql 5.5 and while creating a new project it gives me an error:40 Couldnt connect to sql server.

Hello to everybody,

I'm a current user of EpiInfo7; I have used older version previously; and the questionary has been a good tool for me.

The problem that I'm having is that I want to print the questionary with the information that one record has. Is that possible? I tried to do it; but the only thing that I print is an empty questionary.

Greetings,

Are you opening the sample.prj file found in the Epi Info 7 preview folder? Make sure you open that specific sample.prj file and not any other project file. The correct sample project should open in both MakeView and Enter without errors. If you're opening a different Sample.prj file, it probably will give you an error because other versions of Epi Info 7 use different project schemas.

The way to add a 'group' field is to right-click on the canvas and select 'New Field Group.' I would liked to have shown an image of this, but I cannot attach images to replies. Do you not see that option listed?

The estimated release date for Epi Info 7 is later this year.

Yes, I’m aware that the version 7 isn’t available for final use just yet. I would like to use this new version as a way of self-education or practice. The questionnaire I got has been already analysed earlier this year, and wanted to use as my real sample for Epi Info 7.

I did finally open the sample.prj file with the version 3.5.2 by opening the Epi Info 7 preview > enter 7 preview. However, for some reason by going into the Help option, I wasn’t able to open the Epi Info 7 preview > Make view 7 preview. I’m aware that in the enter 7 preview, I could go back to Make view, but the programme keep closing without letting me go anywhere further. What I wanted to see was the sample fully designed or the structure itself. By the way, I managed to open the sample.prj wih the version 3.5.2 file by clicking continue when this error message come up “ Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you chick Quit, the application will close immediately. Project schema out of date”
With regard to my question 3 previously posted. I found in the sample the layout I wanted to reach, but I am not so sure how they designed it. The name of the file is Surveillance, and it seems that there is information already grouped in the Hospital info. Again this option is not just yet available with the Epi Info 7 preview.
By having a look at the sample, it seems that Epi Info 7 is a lot better than the 3.5.2. Just in case, do you have any date for the final release? Is very limited using the Epi Info 7 preview, and would rather practice with the Epi Info 7, but again the basic sample cannot be opened.

Epi Info version 7 is in development and should not be used for real-world data collection or analysis at this time. The releases currently available are previews and are meant for soliciting user feedback. If you use Epi Info 7 in a production environment and later on run into bugs or problems, or find that your projects don't work in newer releases of version 7, we may be unable to help you.

As far as the features you mentioned, however, I should note that the the version that you see on the Codeplex 'Downloads' page is quite out of date. I would recommend downloading and installing Epi Info version 3.5.2 from http://www.cdc.gov/epiinfo, as the 3.5.2 release also contains the latest preview of Epi Info 7. After installing version 3.5.2, open the Epi Info main menu and navigate to Help > Epi Info 7 Preview. You'll find a host of new functionality and features in this preview versus the one you've been using. Let me know if, after installing this new release, you still have the issues you outlined above.

We welcome any comments or suggestions you may have regarding Epi Info 7.

I'm newbie using Epi-Info, with a good background working for a health department, and been using SQL server for quite a while now. I will be possibly working for a health centre soon, and need to know how to use this software.

I downloaded Epi-Info 7 already, and didn't have problems. I found an amazing site where I've been watching tuturials on how to use Epi-Info, and it was very useful, but I have few questions or problems. Any help will be much appreciated.

I tried to open the sample file (Sample7.prj), but this message is coming up: "Project schema out of date". I was able to open the other sample with Microsoft Access, but I'd like to open this file with Epi-info. It will be be great if you could let me know how to get this sample opened.
I've been entering a questionnaire in the make view, and I realised that there are few options which I'm not authorised to use. In the "New Field" option for example, the options that are not available are :Option, command button, image, mirror, and codes. How can I make them available?
My questionnaire got three sections, and I would like to group the questions from each group. Can I group them by using a border in the layout? I saw there is a "Group" Button on the top bar, but again is not available.

Code contributions are being checked in almost every day (see http://epiinfo.codeplex.com/SourceControl/list/changesets) and it’s my understanding the major issues with the form designer and data entry components are mostly ironed out. SQL Server should be working just as well as Access. Do you have Microsoft Developer Studio 2008 or higher? If so, you can download and compile the latest source code and give it a spin.
