Greetings,

Epi Info 7 is a pre-beta application, and thus many of its features are not yet implemented. Regarding date fields specifically, the subtraction operator does not have a context with date fields in the most recent version available on Codeplex. The YEARS(), MONTHS(), and DAYS() functions are also not present at this time. I unfortunately can't give you an estimate of when those functions might be completed and made available. Until they are finished and working properly in Epi Info 7, you might want to consider using Epi Info 3. Epi Info 3 is the most recent, currently supported version of Epi Info released by the CDC. You may obtain it at www.cdc.gov/epiinfo.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist, or if you have any other Epi 7 related questions.

I'll see what I can do to help you. Unfortunately, Epi Info 7 is a pre-beta product, so a lot of functionality is missing and there may be many bugs present. The older versions of 7 found on this website may especially be problematic in this regard.

Can you confirm for us the exact version of 7 you're using? It should say at the bottom of the main window something like 7.0.5.30; that's the number we'll need. What operating system are you using, and is it 64-bit or 32-bit? Is the view using MS Access to store data, or is using something else like SQL server? Also, would you be willing to email us your view?

To answer your question on fields: The field limit in Epi Info 7 will depend on the type of database you select. With MS Access you might get 200 to 255 fields maximum, but with SQL Server you can probably get a lot more. I don't know the exact number, but I believe it's around 1024 fields per view. In other words, you shouldn't get a field limitation error with 143 fields.

I assume you're already familiar with Epi Info 3, but if you continue to experience problems with version 7, version 3 might be the next best option. It also uses a Windows-based interface but has been around for years and is relatively stable. Please see http://www.cdc.gov/epiinfo.

Hi, my name is Peter van der Wolf and I work for the Animal Health Service in the Netherlands. I downloaded Epi Info 7.0 to make a data entry form for a questionnaire that I made for animal data. Making the view was rather easy. However, entering the data produced the following error report "Could not safe current record. Too many fields defined.", even when we tried to safe the data halve way through a record. My question is: is there a maximum number of items that one can put in the questionnaire? I have 143 field with either yes/no or check boxes or open field questions. Additionally I have 6 grids. All in all 5 pages with questions. Is the size of the questionnaire the problem or is there something wrong with the coding? Thanks for your time to help me out.

The team wants to prioritize the development of Epi Info 7's statistical functions so that it can be used by state, local and federal public health organizations regarding Novel H1N1 Influenza. Given that time isn't unlimited, finishing the entire Analysis module in short order simply isn't feasible. Therefore, we are interested in hearing from our partners and community members on what parts of the Analysis module are needed the most with respect to investigating, addressing, and/or combating Novel H1N1. We want this discussion to be community-oriented and community-driven, so please feel free to engage other members, ask questions, and talk freely and openly about what it is you need.

As some readers may be unsure of what statistical routines are and are not present in Epi Info 7, here is the list of planned-but-incomplete features:

2x2 Table with 4-color graph
Single Table Analysis (includes Odds-Based Parameters, Risk-based parameters, Taylor series, mid-p, Fisher exact, 95% Conf Interval, Chi Square and others)

If there are other statistical routines that you think would benefit Epi Info 7 with respect to Novel H1N1, please add that to your reply. Also, keep in mind that we need to know level of priority for each suggestion. For example, if three features are suggested, it would help us to know in what order those features should be included so we can include the most important ones first.

The line has a small typo and should read: "libmysqlclient15off". You may leave out the "libqt4-sql-mysql".

monodevelop-database should be installed and after it is installed, your error messages you posted above will go away.

You may also want to install mysql-query-browser for a GUI tool to manage your MySQL databases.

Have you installed Connector/NET? Download the installation guide for Epi Info from codeplex, and read section 3.7 "INSTALLATION OF CONNECTOR/NET 5.2.5 ON UBUNTU 8.04 LTS". This will instruct you to download Connector/NET, install it, and register it in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). Since the error message you posted states it could not find MySql.Data in the Global Assembly Cache, this should fix your problem. If you are still seeing the problem, please post more information about your steps you took to create your project.

I am glad you are able to use the ubuntu version at your university! Thank you for your post.

To create a new project using a MySQL database:

1. Start Epi Info.
2. Click "Make View" button. Make View opens.
3. Click the "New Project" button (or File> New> Project)
4. On the "New Project" dialog, enter a name for your project in the "Name" field. This is an important step.
5. After you enter a name, the "Collected Data Repository" dropdown box will be enabled and you will see three choices: Microsoft Access Database, Microsoft SQL Server Database, and MySQL Database. Choose "MySQL Database".
6. Now click the "..." browse button to the right. This will open the "Create a MySQL Database" dialog.
7. Type in "localhost" into the server name (or 127.0.0.1) if you have the server on your local machine. Otherwise, enter the name of the server you wish to connect to.
8. Type in a database name of a database you wish to create in the "Database name". Note: this will be a new database, not an existing database.
9. Type in "root" as the user name if you have not created another user.
10. Carefully type in your password. This is the password you created when you installed MySQL.
11. Click "OK" You will see the connection string show in the text field to the left of the "...". Also, the connection string for the View Repository will be filled and disabled
12. On the "New Project" dialog, enter a view name in the "View name" text field.
13. Click "OK" to create the project.

Hi my name is Diego and I'm work in a Institute of public health from Argentine. We use Epiinfo a lot, mostly epi6. We give courses of Epiinfo V3.4. A great problem that we found was a great number of universities or Public institutions that are using linux. I think this is an important contribution to all this institutions that want to use epiinfo. For all that I downloaded this version 7 of epiinfo. Due to a work with mysql I thougt this is espectacular way to insert data on databases but I can not do it. When I load makeview and choose new project the collected data repository option are access or ms sql server. How can I connect to mysql ? I have installed MySql 5, connector mysql OS window vista. Thanks. Go ahead please.

Well done !
I just marked a few packages that were not yet installed, and it seems to work.
Your line "libmysql clinet 15 off" made no sense for me and I suppose libqt4... is a KDE dependancy, so the others were sufficiants for me if someone else wants to try...
EpiInfo can be runned, and I'll check later if it's fully usable.

I just managed to install Epi Info in Ubuntu 8,10.
Please try to do the following:

Go to synaptic package manager
Search for Mysql
Check if the following are marked for installation :
- libdbd-mysql-perl
- libmysql5.0-cil
- libmysql clinet 15 off
- libqt4-sql-mysql
- monodevelop-database
- mysql client 5.0
- mysqlcommon
- mysql server 5.0
Check if you have unzipped the file in the desktop
If not then please do so
Now run the command from terminal as per the instructions in the page number -3 INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR EPI INFO TM, Ubuntu release, updated 22nd December 08 ( careful about the spacing and the capitals!)
let me know if you get it

I can't use the ubuntu version. Could you help me, please ? I've installed all the softs needed, I guess... Maybe mysql-connector-net is missing but I didn't find a specific package in all the unbuntu repositories... so I put the MySql.Data.dll in /usr/lib/mono/2.0 as it's said in the advanced installation guide, and did a "sudo gacutil /i MySql.Data.dll"... But there's still the same error, and I definitely don't understand it.

Hello there,
As we progress towards having packaged releases of the toolkit to allow EpiInfo to synchronize with mesh4x, what type of release structure would you like?

I think the option that makes the most sense is to keep the trunk for the moment on http://www.mesh4x.org; to allow rapid integration and bug fixing, and packaging stable releases and including them here so the whole community can find it at once (and so you an bundle them in your own installers or distributions as you see fit)

Thoughts? preferences?
